The coronavirus pandemic created new challenges for families adopting children from foster care this year with courthouse closures, disrupted schedules and a shift from in-person to virtual adoption ceremonies. Despite these hurdles, 157 children in Central Florida were welcomed into their forever families through adoption this year with CHS — exceeding the adoption team’s goal.

Families like Amandas

Amanda and David always knew they wanted to expand their family through adoption. On June 16, 2020 their dreams came true when they adopted their two sons. The new parents envisioned their adoption day in the courthouse surrounded by loved-ones, but COVID-19 brought an unexpected change.

WFTV’s Sarahbeth Ackerman spoke to Amanda about her experience adoption during the pandemic.
