How long does a search take?
There is no way to know in advance how long a search will take. It depends on how clear the records are about contact information. Often we are able to locate a member of the adoption triad within a month or so. Sometimes there is little helpful information in the file to locate a triad member so it may take longer to find them. Sometimes people move around which makes locating them difficult. Sometimes people change their names. In some situations a relative may be deceased.

What if a member of the adoption triad cannot be found?
Please understand that our competent and experienced staff is dedicated to doing all that is possible to locate your adoption triad member. We are diligent and are also disappointed when we are unable to find them. Yet there may simply not be any information that can be found about the person for whom we are searching. There are times when a triad member may not want to be found and sets up barriers not to be found.

Will my money be refunded if the adoption triad member is not found?
No. Fees cover costs of the search. These include staff time, retrieval of archived records, the use of search engines, counseling, consultations, etc.

What if the adoption triad member is deceased?
We cannot contact relatives of deceased family members according to Florida Statute, Chapter 63.162. However, if the record clearly identifies that certain relatives are aware of the placement of a child, we are allowed to contact those persons.

Can you give identifying information to the adoption triad member with whom I have been corresponding?
No. We are never allowed to do give identifying information. You and your adoption triad member are the only ones who can give identifying information through correspondence with CHS as intermediary. This is to protect confidentiality of all parties.

What if the adoption triad member refuses contact?
Our staff honors requests for no contact. However, we make every effort to provide updated medical history information for our adoptees when birth parents desire no contact. We recommend that you be prepared if your adoption triad member refuses contact. You can do so by being aware of the range of emotions that come with search and reunion. You can also seek counseling from a professional who is familiar with adoption issues.
