Frequently Asked Questions

What areas of the Treasure Coast does CHS serve?
The CHS Treasure Coast Division serves Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin and Okeechobee counties.
What is the difference between CHS and other nonprofit organizations that care for children?
CHS is the entry point for many children on the Treasure Coast who have been abused, neglected or abandoned and need a loving home through foster care. And for youth who “age out” of the foster care system before achieving permanency through adoption or reunification, CHS has developed the only transitional living program on the Treasure Coast. Through our Transitional Living Program, we serve former foster youth ages 18 to 23 and work with other agencies to ensure all children receive the services they need. Our services complement these agencies, but our funds are not shared.
Where is the future Youth Transition Center site?
The 4.5-acre campus is located in south Vero Beach on 10th Street. It is also the location of Baines Hall, providing a natural extension of services and an efficient use of the land. It is located near age-appropriate activities, cultural venues, educational opportunities, employment and offers nearby access to medical and mental health services.
How long can youth live in the Youth Transition Center?
Young men and women can live at the center until age 23, provided that they meet the requirements and designated rules set forth by CHS.
Why embark on a capital campaign now?
CHS has well formulated plans to build capacity to meet the needs of children and families of the Treasure Coast. A consultation company conducted a feasibility study for the campaign validation phase, which concluded that the interest and commitment to CHS was appropriate for a campaign of this size.
What is the campaign goal?
The campaign goal is $5 million. The funds will be used to build the Youth Transition Center, increase endowment and provide support for the program.
How will my gift be used?
All funds raised through this effort will support the capital campaign. However, you may designate your gift to a specific project component covered by the campaign. CHS can help you determine where your gift may help the most, or where it may help meet your personal philanthropic goals. You also may wish to remember someone special by choosing a named gift opportunity.
