Internships
Our internship opportunities offer college students valuable hands-on learning and real world experience in a variety of settings while making a considerable difference in the lives of children and families. Though our internships are not paid, you’ll benefit from working closely with seasoned professionals dedicated to serving children and families in our community. As you apply your knowledge in the workplace, you’ll see firsthand how your contributions and expertise can change lives.
Internship placements are available for students in a variety of academic concentrations and may be available for both bachelor's and master's degree candidates. Programs accepting interns include:
Dependency Case Management: provides case management and support services for children who have been abused or neglected.
Case Management Intern, Full- or Part-time
(Undergraduate/graduate students in social work, multiple placements available)
Conduct child safety and family needs assessment, develop case plans and monitor progress, prepare case status reports for court proceedings, observe coordination of delivery of services with multiple agencies, and learn about specialized services and statutory requirements pertaining to parental rights.
Family Connections: provides individual, group and family counseling, and case management for children with emotional issues resulting from physical or sexual abuse or other behavioral problems.
Program Assistant, Part-time
(Undergraduate student in human/social services)
Manage confidential client records, run client data reports and assist with service billing tracking.
Research Assistant, Part-time
(Undergraduate/graduate student in human/social services)
Research and review mental health diagnosis, treatment information and evidence-based practices in therapy with children. Develop a resource library for child/infant mental health topics and recommended practices for implementing new therapeutic models.
Management Assistant, Part-time
(Undergraduate/graduate student in business or management)
Review program procedures and workflow systems and research best practices. Recommend and assist with implementation of procedural changes to increase efficiency.
Marketing Assistant, Part-time
(Undergraduate/graduate student in marketing)
Review current marketing efforts, research and recommend new marketing initiatives and outlets, and develop a comprehensive marketing plan for the program.
Special Needs Adoptions: focuses on helping children of all ages who cannot return to their birth family find their forever family. The goal is to complete an adoption with a foster parent or relative, or to find a family that will adopt.
Case Management Intern, Full- or Part-time
(Undergraduate/graduate student in social work, multiple placements available)
Conduct home visits and observation sessions, conduct and document child studies and home studies, develop case plans and monitor progress, and attend dependency court proceedings.
Additional programs may offer internship placements based on the student's individual experience and qualification.
Qualifications
To qualify for an internship, you must be enrolled to receive college credit for the internship. Please contact the internship placement coordinator in your college or university and verify you have fulfilled all course pre-requisites prior to beginning the internship placement process with CHS.
