Adoption

The goal of our Adoption Program is to find forever families for children who have been removed from their homes and placed in the foster care system. Our program matches children in foster care with families ready to provide the love, guidance and stability every child deserve. Most of these children are 8 years old or older, part of a sibling group, or have physical, emotional or mental challenges. We strive to find the right family for each child, not the right child for a family. This means that we spend a significant amount of time evaluating families to ensure the placement is in the best interests of the child and will be a success.

There are many benefits of adopting from foster care rather than adopting through a private adoption agency. A private adoption, either local or from overseas, can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Foster care adoption is free of cost to you, and Children’s Home Society of Florida covers associated court fees. Furthermore, children adopted from foster care remain covered under Medicaid until they're 18, and they're eligible for state-funded college scholarships, helping alleviate some of the costs of welcoming a child into your family.
