Release date: 10/21/2010
Oct. 13, 2010 (FORT LAUDERDALE,FL) Children's Home Society of Florida, (CHS) Intercoastal Division's 4th Annual Family Empowerment Day will be Saturday November 13 at Delevoe Park, 2520 NW 6th Street, in Fort Lauderdale. The event helps educate and empower Broward County families currently served by CHS so they may take their newfound knowledge to lead sustainable, healthy lifestyles when their involvement with CHS concludes. Currently, 2,500 local children and families receive services from the Intercoastal Division each year.
"Stronger families create stronger communities, which can only make this county a better place to live and raise children to the best of their potential," says Lance Edinburg, creator of Family Empowerment Day and counselor at CHS. "Broward County has so many wonderful programs to help families empower themselves, giving them the knowledge and tools to make good decisions and improve their lives."
Family Empowerment Day is free of charge, and families may come anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. In addition to food and fun activities for children and adults, community providers will present to talk with families and provide informational literature and items. 99 Jamz, South Florida's HIP HOP & R&B station, will provide the music.
CHS is reaching out to the community for financial support, donations of food and beverages, child friendly activities, and community providers.
"With the help of our neighbors, we will be able to make this an extraordinary event resulting in more competent, self-assured families," Edinburg says. Baptist Medical Plaza at Coral Springs has signed on to support the 4th Annual Family Empowerment Day by providing 300 bottles of water.
