Become a Mentor

Mentors Opening Doors Enriching Lives (MODEL)
Our MODEL Program provides quality adult mentors to children and youth ages 4 to 18 years who have an incarcerated parent. In this one-on-one community-based mentoring program, youth are matched with trained adult mentors who help them develop to their fullest potential. Mentors help build trust and communication skills to help youth perform better in school, have stronger family relationships, and be more equipped to avoid negative activities or peer relationships.

Currently, MODEL mentoring services reach children in seven regions of Florida including Pensacola, Tallahassee, Tampa, West Palm Beach, Orange, Seminole, Osceola and many of the surrounding communities.

There are just a few requirements in order to be a mentor. You must:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Complete an application
  • Meet for a personal interview
  • Attend an orientation session
  • Successfully complete a background check
  • Be willing to spend one hour each week for one year with your mentee. We call this the "1+1+1= 1 BIG Difference" plan

You may have a few more questions. Can I do this? Am I what they are looking for? Do I have the skills to be a mentor? Not to worry. CHS has qualified staff in each region to provide training and assistance. Our fun and dedicated staff is with you every step of the way, from the time you submit the application to orientation, meeting your mentee and throughout the entire match. And we are very good at matching the right adult with the right kid.

It's that easy, so let's get started! Click here to complete a mentor application.
